Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derails in Assam.

In Assam, the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailed at Dibalong station under the Lumding division in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section today.

Official sources said that eight coaches, including the power car and the engine, were derailed. However, no casualties or major injuries have been reported.

Our correspondent reports that an accident relief train and an accident relief medical train have already left for the site from Lumding, along with senior officials of the division to supervise the rescue and restoration works.

Assam. Durga puja committee depicts various themes in pandals.

In Assam, Saptami puja is being celebrated across the state today with religious fervour as part of the Durga puja. Over 4,000 Durga pujas have been organised in the state this year. The puja committee has depicted various themes during the making of puja pandals, including the recent recognition of Assamese as a classical language, Harappa civilisation, and Jagganath temple, among others. Over 400 pujas have been organised in Guwahati City.

Devotees have been throng Puja mandaps since early this morning, seeking blessings from Maa Durga. The devotional music accompanied by eye-catching lighting and decoration has made the environment extremely delightful. Special care has been taken in maintaining cleanliness by the puja committees. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also visiting multiple puja pandals in Guwahati city today.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces CBI’s Takeover Of 41 Cases In Online Stock Trading Scam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the CBI has formally taken over the investigation of 41 cases related to the alleged online stock trading scam.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said that the CBI has officially taken over this matter and that the Assam government would extend all possible support to ensure that justice is served at the earliest.

The online trading scam in the state came to light during the last week of August when investors believed to have put in huge amounts of money into one of Deepankar Barman’s companies.

The investors complained that he had not paid them the due returns and that he is now absconding. Following this, the CID has made several arrests in the alleged online trading scam.

Assam Mandates NRC Application Receipt Numbers For New Aadhaar Card Applicants. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that all the new applicants for Aadhaar cards have to submit their National Register of Citizens, NRC application receipt numbers.

Talking to newspersons in Guwahati today, he said that the move would help in stopping the influx of illegal foreigners. I

t may be stated that this year 54 illegal immigrants have been detected in the state so far.  Mr. Sarma said that multiple measures are being taken to detect illegal immigrants across the international border of Assam.

He said that additional forces would be deployed in border districts as per ground assessment to assist the border police.

Assam. Dr L Murugan Reviews Flagship Schemes In Chirang.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, reviewed the status and progress of flagship schemes from both state and central governments in the Chirang District of Assam.

Addressing a public meeting, Dr Murugan said that a new railway project connecting Kokrajhar to Bhutan will commence soon, along with several other development projects.

The Union Minister, who is on a two-day tour of Chirang, expressed satisfaction with the progress during a meeting yesterday with the District Commissioner and offered suggestions for the timely and quality completion of ongoing schemes.

Assam Assembly Passes Assam Repealing Bill 2024.

In Assam, the Assembly has passed the Assam Repealing Bill, 2024 today abolishing The Assam Moslem Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the aim was not only to abolish child marriages but also to get away with the Kazi system.

He stressed that the objective was to bring registration of Muslim marriages and divorces under the government system.

Our Correspondent reports that recently the state cabinet approved the Repealing Bill to abolish The Assam Moslem Marriages and Divorces Registration Act and Rules of 1935, which permitted underage marriages under specific conditions.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan earlier tabled The Assam Repealing Bill, 2024 in the Assembly to abolish The Assam Moslem Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935 and the Assam Repealing Ordinance 2024.

North East Has Made Tremendous Progress Under PM Modi. L Murugan.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan said that North East has made tremendous progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking to newspersons in Guwahati today, Mr. Murugan said that the Prime Minister has also given priority to development of this region.

The Union minister who is in visit to Chirang district in Assam said that he would oversee and review the various development activities in the district.

Mr Murugan during his visit is also to review the activities of Information and Broadcasting ministry in Guwahati with the senior officials. Today, senior officials of the ministry received him at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoli airport in Guwahati upon his arrival.

Centre To Allot Aadhar Cards To People Of Assam Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the Centre will release the Aadhar card of over 9.35 lakh people of the state. Talking to newspersons in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said that between February and August 2019, the allotment process of Aadhar was stopped due to NRC biometric related exercise in the state.

Mr. Sarma said that he recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to appraise him on this issue. Around 9,35,682 individuals had provided their biometrics details for Aadhaar card issuance at centres that were also NRC (National Register of Citizens) centres between February and August 2019.

Sarma said, “There is no connection between the 19 lakh individuals whose names are missing from the NRC list and the 9 lakh who have not received Aadhaar.”

The office of the Registrar General of India (RGI), under the Union ministry of home affairs, has asked the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to release the locked biometrics of 9,35,682 residents of Assam.

Assam. Prime Accused In Gangrape Of Minor Girl At Dhing Dies Trying To Escape Police Custody.

In Assam, the main accused in the rape of a minor girl at Dhing died early this morning. The incident occurred during a re-creation of the crime scene in the wee hours today. The accused, Tafazul Islam, who had been arrested by police managed to flee and jumped into the pond that led to his death. Police later recovered his body with the help of the SDRF team.

Akashvani’s correspondent reports that three persons were allegedly involved in the heinous crime at Dhing in Nagaon district that resulted in massive protests across the state. Police are trying to nab the remaining culprits.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that persons, involved in the crime, will not be spared. State DGP G P Singh and Minister Pijush Hazarika visited Dhing and ensured justice for the victim’s family.

A minor girl was allegedly raped by three persons on Thursday evening when she was returning home from tuition on her bicycle. She was left injured and unconscious on the roadside. Later locals rescued her and informed police about the incident.

Assam. Security Forces Conduct Searches After ULFA Claims Bombs In 24 Locations.

In Assam, security forces carried out searches at several places across the state today after the banned outfit ULFA claimed to have planted bombs in 24 places.

However, no untoward incident has been reported so far. DGP G.P Singh said that suspicious articles have been found in some places including Guwahati. He said that the materials had been sent for forensic examination.

The banned outfit released a statement to the media stating that the bombs had been planted at several places across the state.

Following this, police swung into action and spotted those materials. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the outfit to resolve issues through dialogue
